Message from California artist: "My name is Nancy and I work as a full time artist. Art for me is both a physical and mental expression. I use stretched canvases, palette knives and versatile acrylic paints. Each piece begins with an idea followed by a simple curved line. I usually see or feel something that sparks creativity and evokes emotion. I’ll scribble the idea down in a journal and think about how to bring it to life. Once I start painting, the image that was in my mind evolves. I paint mermaid art because I love women and fantasy. Mermaids are strong and feminine, yet incredibly playful. The largest mermaid painting I've done is on a 12.5 foot canvas and currently hanging in Blackhawk Beauty Bar in California. It was fun to do. I also teach art to 2nd- 12th grade students through the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission while advocating for creative expression to remain a part of the public school system. I reside in Northern California with my wonderful husband and two sons who continue to support me. We have rescued four quirky dogs. They are my artist assistants in the studio."
